THE JOURNEY CONTINUES: AUG. 9, 2022

This journey does continue. When 2022 began and I had made the commitment to begin living as a new creation by believing continuously I am one, I had no idea what I was doing. I only knew that this promise was for me and somehow I needed to believe it into existence. I had no idea what this would entail, I just knew it was time. Well, this year has been a huge turning point in my journey. Living as the old creation, I lived with the bondage of the sin done to me and my own sin. Believing I am now a new creation has begun to show me what living with an active and alive Heavenly Father, active and alive Savior and Lord, and active and alive Holy Spirit is all about.

A new creation doesn’t hope they are real, he knows they are because of their presence. I struggled so MUCH with believing before this year. In fact, most of the time I had believing buried deeply so I wouldn’t have to think about it. I just keep doing what I thought would please Jesus and I obeyed as best I knew how hoping that someday I’d arrive at this new creation reality. The gateway labeled BELIEF was locked until this year. Walking into the brilliant Light of belief is nothing less than AMAZING! I know I will never reach the end of my learning about this new reality, but what I know with deep assurance is I will never turn back. I’m sure I’ll face times where unbelief surfaces, but I am learning to face them, not hide or stuff them. How Faithful our Trinity Team is!

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES: AUG. 8, 2022

This morning as I was reading my devotional I was made aware of something I’ve thought could be true, but I haven’t seen it worded so definitely. What I’m writing about is controlling our thoughts. It states: “You are powerful enough to choose what you think about.” So often I can get consumed with details about upcoming events such as the start of the counseling program. Fears and anxiety can consume me. This morning was one of them. The scripture tied to this devotional message says, “I leave the gift of peace with you–my peace. Not the kind of fragile peace given by the world, but my perfect peace. Don’t yield to fear or be troubled in your hearts–instead, be courageous!” John 14:27.

As I read the scripture and the sentence stating I am powerful enough to control my thoughts, I realized this is another one of those areas of “self-confidence”. I use to think I would die before I’d be rid of some troubling thoughts. I never translated Christ’s Words of promise–“I leave the gift of peace with you…” as courage and strength to stand up to these troubling thoughts. Yet, today as I read this I knew this was another one of those old beliefs which I can let die.

Believing and living as the new creation Christ provided for us is nothing less than a miracle continuously in the making. How I love Him for this!

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES: AUG. 7, 2022

This weekend has been one for completing inventories for three of the men in the step study group I’ve been co-leading for our Celebrate Recovery ministry. Yesterday I did the second one and this afternoon will be the third one. It is always so wonderful to listen to one’s past and see what God is doing today. Then, it is even more amazing to hear them talk about what they hope for their tomorrow’s. Because I’ve had more years with my recovery, it is easy for me to see into their future the fruition of what they call hope. Each one of them has a story God is getting them ready to use for His Kingdom Glory. One of the guys is now ready to give his full testimony. Another is hoping to give his in another 6 months and to be sober for that long so he can begin to co-lead his own step study group. We have been praying for God to open the window for new leadership in our group. This, He is doing.

This recent awakening of mine regarding “being love” is not something unique to me. One of the men this weekend was sharing his own ugly past and the consequences of it. When I asked him if he knew that as a new creation God had made him love, he laughed. He knew better! Well, before the next few minutes were over, he was starting to believe a hope he never thought would be true for him. I certainly never thought it would be true for me, yet, God does not change what His Word promises. Finding the truth of God Word within oneself is truly AMAZING! It is a miracle of God’s Grace and Mercy–truly a miracle!

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES: AUG. 6, 2022

It has been amazing to me to finally ask a couple of people when they found out they were love, only to hear they never really doubted it. It was a foundation they hadn’t questioned or needed to think about. It was simply a truth for them.

It was two years ago this summer that I went to my prayer warrior. It was in the depth of covid so we sat out on her deck keeping a distance between us. I had finished the book she had me read–I Give You Authority. In it were the 3-R’s: Recognize, Reject and Replace. I had begun to recognize the lies I had always believed as truth, I could now reject them, but what was I to replace them with? This is where I was stuck. She then said it was time to pray over you so God would show you what to replace them with. As she did pray over me she said, “Let Earnie know to replace these lies with self-love, self-appreciation and self-confidence.” I now call these the 3-S’s. I asked her for a piece of paper so I could write the 3-S’s down so I wouldn’t forget them by the time I got home. She didn’t know what I was talking about so I repeated for her what she had prayed. She said, “That was the Holy Spirit talking, I have no recollection of that.”

I write this event because I now am coming into the realization of what self-love is. The first and big reality is that it is not arrogance as my father use to say to me. It is a peace that passeth all understanding–a contentment with oneself. I’d spent a lifetime hiding my past thinking it was who I am only to now realize it was done to me. It didn’t make me. God had done that with a purpose in mind. I’m finally getting there!

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES: AUG. 5, 2022

This journey of present is bringing me to a reality I’ve never touched upon and certainly never dreamed would be true for me. Earnie is love. (I’m all teared up trying to write this). God is Love. God made me in His Image. I am love. Good grief! This is utterly AMAZING!

I went and met with my prayer warrior yesterday after lunch. I couldn’t wrap my mind around this reality of “being love”. I am a doer, but being love was too overwhelming for me. I asked my prayer warrior, “Lois, when did you know that Lois is love?” Immediately she said she had never not known that. She went on to say that she didn’t know abuse from her childhood like I did. Love is embodied into a child during these early, formative years. She then went into sharing with me the characteristics I have which demonstrate love. The first one was passion. I easily recognized this characteristic. I have always carried a good deal of passion for whatever I’m doing. It is the motivation to not only do it, but to not quit on it until it is done right. Well, Lois said Passion is another way of saying love.

God is transforming each one of us into His likeness. I am so overwhelmed to be considered in this category of of Love. Earnie is love. This journey of believing I’m a new creation is now starting to find what the characteristics of a new creation are. It is a whole new level of believing. Today, I believe that I, (Earnie) am/is love.

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES: AUG. 4, 2022

This morning’s devotional time has done it again. God is very focused on growing me into His likeness–being a new creation. I have spent my life disciplining myself to be the kind of person that “loves”. However, now that I’ve committed (disciplined) myself to be a new creation, God is wanting me to know there is a difference between disciplining oneself to love vs being loving.

My mother, I’d perceive, was my best example of love when I was a child. However, as I’ve moved through life, I’ve noticed many people who love very differently than my mom did. What I noticed about mom was that she did all that she could to take care of my needs–physical (meals, clothes, laundry, helping with tasks, modeling devotions, reading to us, etc.) The emotional needs I had were left alone for the most part. In fact, I don’t recall but one time when an emotional need was addressed and that tied to a physical accident.

In Colossians 3:12-15, Paul has written some very definite words about loving. He says in part, “…Be merciful as you endeavor to understand others, and be compassionate, showing kindness toward all. Be gentle and humble, unoffendable in your patience with others. Tolerate the weaknesses of those in the family of faith, forgiving one another in the same way you have been graciously forgiven by Jesus Christ….” “…Love becomes the mark of true maturity.” (The Passion)

I have learned over time the huge difference between doing and being. I know how to do, what I’m needing to find is the “being” side of love. I find this to be a new area of Faith I’ve never tackled before. I know I need to believe I can “be” loving because I’m a new creation. I’m not “doing” a new creation, I “am” a new creation.

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES: AUG. 3, 2022

This morning’s devotional message was so clear and beautiful. It starts with the message that God’s Love is evidenced by the Grace given to us. Then as I read my bible, the Passion, Paul is making it abundantly clear to the followers in Colossae about Christ’s work on the Cross for all who believe. Starting in Colossians 2:14 it reads: “He canceled out every legal violation we had on our record…. He erased it all–our sins, our stained soul–he deleted it all and they cannot be retrieved.”

A couple of weeks ago one of the men receiving counseling stated his doubt in Christ’s love for him. His sins were just too great. The counselor I’m observing doing the actual counseling simply stated at that time that Christ had permanently erased all of that sin he was talking about. She told him it was time he began confronting the lies of his past so he could forgive himself just as Christ had already forgiven him.

At the time I was listening to all of this, I was acknowledging the truth of it. I knew those lies this man was believing for himself for I thought exactly the same for me not so long ago. Yet, when she told him what she said and I heard it, God nudged me to anchor into this truth once and for all. Then, as I read this morning’s scripture, it was clearly and beautifully stated again. This time I rejoiced and gave thanks that I am not a prisoner any longer to the lies of my past. God is abundantly GOOD!

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES: AUG. 2, 2022

I often note in this blog how God orchestrates the coordination of my journaling with the day’s devotional reading along with the Bible reading I’m doing from The Passion. Well, today, the coordination put a smile on my face. Yesterday’s devotional reading was so perfectly aligned with my journaling and Bible reading. Today, as I had finished journaling and asking Jesus what He wanted me to know for today, I opened my devotional to find that yesterday I’d read the wrong devotion. I had skipped a page and read tomorrow’s message. I had to back up a page to find yesterday’s message and today’s. It just so happens it was no mistake. Yesterday’s message fit today’s message from Jesus and Paul’s message to the people of Colossians.

Years ago I would have said that this would be kind of freaky and I’d thank God for it anyway. Today I see it very differently. There is nothing freaky about it. God is simply at work in our everyday lives and He is very intentional about it. The other thing I’m beginning to see much more clearly is God’s Love. Over and over we are told in Paul’s writing to deliver God’s message through His Love. This is truly outlined well in I Corinthians 13. What is hitting me is that now that I’m more anchored in my Faith &Trust, God is wanting me to realize that all I do is to be done in evidence of His Love. I will never be a true Light carrier if I don’t carry/deliver it in Love. God’s Wisdom is only His if it is given in God’s Love. My present learning–lesson.

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES: AUG. 1, 2022

The summer days are passing one day at a time. I love the produce of summer and all that it provides. The rest the land receives in winter shows forth its profit in summer. Yesterday I picked the first of the sweet corn. There is nothing like a meal of garden produce: corn, green beans, tomatoes, and summer squash–along with a BBQed pork chop!

Today God is shedding His Light on a topic He began a few days ago. This topic of bringing His Light into the darkness of “hurts, hang-ups and habits” is critically important. However, today’s devotional message is solidly hitting the truth that if this Light is not carried in Christ’s Love it is not Christ’s message, it becomes man’s message for man.

There is a situation at hand which involves a married couple. They are struggling a good deal presently and he has reached out to me. There are a couple of folks beginning to work with his wife. It is easy for man to look at the situation at hand and see all kinds of faults and put judgment into the picture. God was vividly pointing out this morning that no one will be carrying His Light if it is not done in His Love. Our words of counsel/guidance shared in Loving Wisdom has much to do with the approach taken and the tone of voice in which it is delivered.

I love how God works. He continuously is preparing us to see from HIs vantage point–not mine, not ours.

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES: JULY 31, 2022

Today, the opening line of my devotional reads: “I have called you to be light, love and wisdom.” The title of the devotional is: I Want You to Think Like Me. It goes on to describe the darkness surrounding us in the world of today. We can easily get lost in this darkness or we can remember that there is a Great Light that far exceeds this darkness. Staying in the darkness is a choice. Light comes with believing, trusting, holding onto faith.

The issues being revealed from sponsoring and counseling always bring darkness to the table. God hasn’t called me to carry that darkness within, but to bring His Light into the darkness. It is by loving and using His Wisdom that bring this Light. Before I’d even read this line above in my devotional, I had journaled about the phone call yesterday seeking wisdom I didn’t have at the moment, but I said I would be praying for God’s Light to be shed what He’d want known. When I journaled about this God pointed out that His healing comes when we cooperate with HIs shed Light. We must be willing to believe, take a step into faith and trust all the while.

Learning to step into the darkness of fear and unknown is not an easy task. Yet, this is what God asks us to help others do–take a step of faith into darkness where we trust His Light will shine.
